A much in demand and prolific educator and ensemble leader of young musicians, Sam has arranged and conducted large ensembles and big bands of young musicians at the Barbican, the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and at London Jazz Festival amongst many events in myriad musical combinations and situations.
Sam regularly provides workshops and sessions in jazz and improvisation from beginner to post grad musicians and as CPD for music educators.
He has worked with NYJO as a guest artist conducting his own music with their big band in residencies in the London Jazz Festival, with the under-18’s ensemble, and delivering composition and production courses with young digital creators.
Sam currently conducts Ealing Youth Jazz Orchestra for Ealing Music Service and devised and set up their training jazz ensemble Ealing Youth Big Band which introduces young musicians to jazz, big band playing, and improvisation. Creating a Jazz programme that gives young musicians a pathway to learn jazz and big band language alongside orchestral and classical musics.
Sam is founder and conductor of the JMI Youth Big Band who regularly play across London, including performances at the Royal Festival Hall, the London Jazz Festival, The Vortex, Pizza Express Dean Street, and workshops and education sessions across England.
Sam is a specialist in providing bespoke composition, arrangement and workshop materials for any situation. HIs portfolio includes a series of workshop and beginner big band music designed to provide an entry point for young musicians.
